The Damnable Life & Deserved Death of Osama Bin Laden

It was a Sunday night when we got the news--The most despised and dangerous man in the world is dead. For a few hours jubilation and satisfaction filled the air. This was the first time since President George W Bush advocated for endless war that we had scored a victory or seen any kind of light at the end of the tunnel. Every network reported that Navy SEALs had shot and killed Osamam Bin Laden, a rich kid who thought himself above all law. This included the laws of his Holy Book, which he had twisted into a menagerie of hate speech and spectacular exceptions for those who die killing the right kind of strangers. It was a unifying moment and we agrred as Americans about two things. One thing all Americans do agree on right now is that Pakistan is like that friend in college who borrows money for beer, smokes your weed and then tries to fuck your girlfriend and disgusts her so much even you don't get laid that night. In other words, who needs them? The other thing we all agreed on? The other thing would be--'Man am I glad that murdering fuck is dead!" and we all hoped they used an NYPD officers gun to do it.
As the newscycle ground on the right wing Fox News (aka Fox Comedy News) began to depricate the achievement, which may end the shooting and culture wars they had so invested in. "Illegal" was the initial account by Gauleiter Shep Smith, clearly stepping away from his occasional acute doses of reality that sometimes distinguish him from the rest of his bloodthirsty right wing coven of liars and 3rd rate presidential portender's that populate his 'news outlet'.
Illegal? Is it not the aforementioned George W Bush who said we would make no distinction between the terrorists and those who harbor them? Weren't we supposed to 'smoke 'em out of their holes?" Why then, for at least their last 4 years of Mr Bush's tenure had this evil man been living in relative luxury 100's of miles from the dusty desert caves we had been wasting out time looking in? "Moving from place to place", "chained to a dialysis machine" and "protected by tribes in the remote border region" were just platitudes to keep us occupied as we allowed the government to 'wag the dog'.
The relief and triumph symbolized by the justifiable killing of this bloodthirsty madman leaves the right with little in the way of boogey men. Tarnishing or inventing lies and pretending that our Pakistani "allies' were somehow slighted by the current president giving meaning to the lies of George W Bush by killing a man so fucking dangerous and so completely evil that the last 10 years will undoubtedly be known as the "Post 9-11 Era" or something of that nature, is an impossible stretch for the hateful ideologues of Fox News and other hate speech outlets.
The idea that peace and disengagement are the next logical steps in the wars of George W Bush should be like the sweet champagne of Liberty to every American. Sadly to a small minority who are more loyal to extremist right wing philosophy than the Stars and Stripes or the Constitution it is the bitter wormwood of the rapture. Better the world should end then the failed policies of the right be seen for what they are is the apparent philosophy of the current American Right. They have not heard the chiming from History's Bell Tower signalling that the page has been turned and that 9-11 has been avenged (to a point, nothing can undo the evil we suffered that day).
The time has come. George W Bush and his lies have been sent to live in Texas where no one will be forced to listen to them. President Obama is never going to get the kind of credit he deserved for the ballsy move he initiated to kill a mad dog murderer who was still actively plotting to kill Americans. The right goes on with an overdose of anger and a hostile attitude towards facts that do not suit their purposes. This willful ignorance and anti-intellectual attitude is what will be their undoing

My Life with Kadaffy

Mohmar Kadaffy came to power the year i was born. I have never known a world without him. Now he seems slowly spiraling into the scrapheap of History.
An enigmatic man who would be comical if he weren't a mass murderer, Kadaffy is that most mercurial of all things; a made for TV Evil Dictator. A man so steeped in mystery no one can even agree how to spell his name (just look at the keyword tags on this blog post). I just like to use the "K" spelling because its more sinister and was in vogue when i was in high school and he was at the height of his international trouble making. Truly, here is a man who will not be missed. The future will judge this tin god harshly. Those who drove him from power will be judged on their own merits, but certainly eliminating him will be weighed in their favor.
Do we want another war? Of course not, but we are deeply involved in the Middle East and North Africa, or as Tea Baggers would refer to the entire region if they were in any way creative; "Evil-istan". Our situation with the Mad Libyan Colonel is best summed up by the words of George S Patton;"We're gonna have to fight the bastards one day, lets do it now while we have the men, weapons & machines here to do it now".
If not now, when? He's embarked on an attack against his own people which in his own words would be without mercy or pity which is clearly headed towards a massacre. This war is built on the Clintonian model from Bosnia. Plenty of air power very few boots on the ground. While its daunting to think that we are attacking anyone based on the word of the French, this war seems just. A madman who is killing his own people is a moniker that could be applied to plenty of countries and people rightfully point out that we are pretty selective about those we choose to attack. Fair point. I can only say one less genocidal maniac in the world really isn't really any kind of loss. I mean, sure; 'Odyssey Dawn ' sounds like the name of a ship that only does all gay cruises, but nothing is perfect. I think we would all like something menacing like "Operation Overlord" or "Operation Kill Khadaffy", but it's still a bit better than "Operation Iraqi Freedom".
I'm looking forward to the day where i can live in a world without Kahdaffy. Yes, there are other dictators. Yes, there are plenty of reasons NOT to go after this guy. Thats obvious. My point is simply- "Why SHOULDN'T we give the people of Libya a chance to control their own destiny without this mass murderer running the show?" Sometimes even if its for all the wrong reasons at the end of the day the right thing to do is still the right thing to do.
Sadly our last 2 Wars of Intervention haven't worked out well, but this is much different. The people of Libya are actively fighting to overthrow a tyrant. This was NOT the case in Iraq of Afghanistan. In those wars, as misguided as they may have been, the people were complacent. They weren't really struggling to throw off the yoke of oppression. We handed them Liberty and they were ambivalent. Maybe because we came in and removed a problem without them having to do much. The Libyan rebels are laying down their lives in hopes of Liberty. Early on it was a longshot and many were killed yet they fought on. These people seem much more likely to savor the sweet taste of freedom. God knows the people of the former Yugoslavia have shown gratitude. This is a similar situation.

aguilera experiment,National Anthem

We all know about aguilera's enormous fail at the Superbowl. A National Anthem so botched it will making us a laughingstock overseas forever. Still i think most people would do worse when even one person is watching, especially if you ambush them when they've had a few and are playing with dangerous fireworks at the Fourth of July party. So never mind the fact that shes a pro and got probably a few hundred thousand to make what amounts to her own commercial. The songs about 75 seconds long. So with the advertising for the this years SuperBowl at 3 million dollars a minute, so in a way she would have realized something like 4.5 million in free PR. She's the real life Enrico Pollazzo from the 1st Police Squad movie.
I gave myself a pop quiz and tried to sing the song. I blew it. Only thing of note was it ran 75 seconds. So i at least had the pentameter correct. I didn't record it but i was able to get through it with moderate difficulty. Its a tough song to sing. Also, unexpectedly, i started to have a lot of emotion about it. After i sang the line with "and the rockets ready glare" i had uncontrollable vibrato because i actually got emotional. The second and third attempt i still couldn't do all the lines correctly but they all were 70-75 seconds long.
Notably, if you sing the song three times in a row there's a good chance you'll become emotional. You think about every single baseball game you ever went too, where its possible they have been singing the national anthem for 100 years and is a key sequence in any good baseball movie. Plus all the other patriotic emotions and thinking about the suffering of all the soldiers throughout American history well up. You feel grateful. So its hard not to almost tear up a bit.
That said all celebrities come off as greedy out of touch idiots most of whom, like mel gibson or to a much lesser extant Tim Robbins should just keep their political ideas to themselves. So its really hard to feel bad for any celebrity.
Ok, after taking a quick break to smoke a cigarette and really torment my esophagus, I tried to sing The Star Spangled banner again, tis time while looking at the lyrics. It still never exceeded 80 seconds. I was finally over the wave of patriotism and i sang with a bit of flourish. One mistake in pitch and you end up in an inescapable raise of octave, so you gotta really be thinking. None the less i was able to imagine myself in the infoeld of a packed Yankee Stadium before a big game and i know i would never be able to do it right the 1st time. i just wouldn't. Unless... of course i used a monitor or read them off the scoreboard, which i think will be mandatory for all future renditions if they continue to do it live.
Christina is stuck with this and its damaged her career for all time. Still, she's talented and still has a decent amount of fans and has made millions. If thisd is the worst thing that ever happens to her shes still had a better life than me. So I guess its no big deal that she's saddled with this ignominious performance for the rest of her life and every time someone goes in front of that mic with the entire world watching and start singing with those fateful words;"Oh say can you see...?"

Quitting Pot Without Trying

on december 26 i ran out of pot. As always i wanted more. That was they day of the 1st really heavy snow here in NYC. 20 inches. i found myself basically fiending. My connection in the Bronx was just too far away to get to for the huge sack of weed for 60 bucks and my hometown connection has great stuff but SUPER pricey. I blew it off for a day. That day turned into 3 the a week. After about 5 days i was starting not to miss it. Sure i had smoked twice as many cigarettes as usual, but coming down off of a buzz that was uninterrupted for something like 20 years was disconcerting to say the least. I was used to smoking weed day and night and refreshing my buzz every 20 -45 minutes til it was all gone. As soon as i started running low i would make plans to ensure i had more. It dawned on me that i was living from drug deal to drug deal and had put up a "marijuana Force Field" to filter reality.
For a long time i suffered undiagnosed from what can best be described as genetic leukemia. Not cancerous, but painful. When i wasn't high i was jittery, my hands would become numb, i would get agitated and angry. I thought it was because i couldn't function without weed. Turns out that i was simply becoming symptomatic when my buzz wore off. When they finally diagnosed me and gave me medication for a long time i still clung to the comfort of smoking reefer. It does still relieve my symptoms completely when i smoke it, but now they are manageable and its not the intense pain, mental anguish & numbness i once felt all the time when i wasn't stoned.
Looking back the pot both helped me and hanged me. I would probably not have been together enough to get out of college. On the other hand i didn't have the greatest grades. My biggest regret is not so much cocooning myself in a veil of pot smoke, but the fact i really could've done better in school and had more ambition for a better life.
The thing that convinced me that it was time to quit was when a couple of buddies came by for a day of drinking, grilling and watching football. One of my buddies busted out and i smoked for the first time in weeks. I felt that warm wave of intoxication wash over me. It was like the return of an old friend. My friend was even kind enoughto leave me some. The next day i smoked like i always had. When i ran out I was again snowed in an their was just no way to get my hands on any. I put it off again. Then i dealt with odd feelings the next day. I was feeling the symptoms of what most people describa as coming over them when they are high. I was paranoid, i was nervous, my short term meory was just awful. At one point i git nervous because i was unable to find my keys. I searched and searched until i finally found my facking HAND!! Of course lack of sensation in my hand had something to do with it, but thats when it came clear that i was still under the effects of the drug, albeit the negative ones. After a few more days i found out i had to relearn a couple of things but no big deal.
Since that day I have made one small purchase. It was a tiny bag and it lasted all week. I realized that i would always smoke as much as i had much faster than i wanted. I made concrete decision that i would not buy any more pot then i could smoke in one day ever again and that those days needed to be few and far between.
Even though I will be looking to smoke up the day of the Superbowl (its a tradition), I really haven't touched the stuff since the first Jet playoff win over wild card weekend.
I wish i could say a magic wand was waved and i was suddenly a super version of myself, but that just didn't happen. Instead there were lots of little little things that happened. I was less apprehensive. I was certainly more motivated. I was not transformed, but i was somewhat more evolved. Anytime i smoke weed i know i will not come clear of the effects for 48 hours and i just don't have that kind of time much anymore. Sure, its great for when a creative endeavor, like playing my guitar, but it fucked up too many other things.
So moving forward I have made a decision that pot will be a much smaller part of my life. The kind of thig i would do on vacation or when someone else busts out. It was an easy decision because circumstance had bought me so far without trying. I'm already making plans to use some of the money i saved to do some of theother things i love but neglected all these years. Travel more, chasing skirts a little more, eating sat some better establishments and going out for beers more often.
It's strange, but i have never felt better. Onward and upward!

the Battle Rages On! Jane Velez Mitchell is completely insane!

I curse the day that i put HLN on my 'favorite' channel list. Jane Velez Mitchell takes the idea of leveling the playing field between men & women to an all out assault. Tonight the War on Women raged on as she destroyed the men in the life of Casey Anthony, who clearly somehow caused the death of her 3 year old daughter even though only Casey has been charged. It was disgusting to see how she wove her War on Women into the fabric of a woman who most likely killed her daughter.
Mitchell started carping about a rather raunchy video produced by the sailors and some officers on the USS Enterprise. You would think you would cut them some slack for stuff like defending us from the fucking terrorists and risking their lives. In Jane Velez Mitchells insane world we would have won the Afghan and Iraq war if we weren't so involved in the War on Women. She opened and closed by insisting in extreme terms that the now Captain of the USS Enterprise MUST be fired. Forget the insult to future Enterprise Captain James T Kirk, this assertion is patently ridiculous. Allow the man to apologize, accept bawdy behavior by the crews on long deployments and move on. Sailors cursing like sailors? Well thats just unacceptable to maniacal Jane Velez Mitchell. Okay, pretend that the madwoman gets her way; how many people are qualified to run an airport sitting on a nuclear reactor in the middle of the ocean? Contrast this with another high profile military case, that of the Fort Hood Massacre suspect. Cowardly scum bag and possibly the only deserving Velez Mitchell whipping boy Major Nidal Hasan was a known bad doctor, bad soldier and held traitorous views that he just couldn't shut the fuck up about. There were endless attempts to rehabilitate Hasan because even a shitty doctor is desperately needed in our all volunteer military. Now we all know this is a mistake, but if we can't afford to dishonorably discharge an incompetent doctor can we really just dismiss a guy who is enormously competent? Sure, he has a lack of sensitivity, but in my mind so long as he wasn't bullying people he deserves a shot at redemption. It should be noted that Hasan was a rare male casualty in the war on women, cut down by a female guard who has repeatedly declined tyo take the credit for firing the crippling shot that paralyzed the bastard and ended the massacre. In fact, there's some debate over who fired the shot. The team spirit of the law enforcement officers and their humility bounced off Velez Mitchell the way a tennis ball would bounce off a brick wall.
I think it goes without saying that the long time spent away from family fighting in a war might make people want to make a tasteless video, where many crew members of both sexes participated. This seems like the sort of gag reel you may see at an office Christmas party but on steroids. It was tasteless, people need some sensitivity training, end of story. Well Jane says different. In fact she shouted down the attractive panelist who slightly deviated from the War on Women script. Sadly the officer has been dismissed, in part because of loudmouths like Velez Mitchell. I can only think that an effort to rehabilitate the man should have at least been attempted first. 'Nuff said about that story.
Since no strippers were murdered today it was time to dust off the disturbing story of Casey Anthony. Anthony, an undeniably attractive woman, may well have killed her daughter. Some recently discovered 'racy' home video's and still shots were being debated for admissibility as evidence. Jane decried the pictures after first dismissing them as utterly nonsensical and inconsequental. Of course, in true self contradictory bad taste she made sure we saw over every available picture over and over while her hideous head hovered next to the inset. A long montage of Casey Anthony acting like a drunken bimbo with a body that just won't quit looped in inset while Velez-Mitchell shifted the blame to Anthony's father, who had blogged that he was afraid that his daughter was a pretty bad mom, which is actually a piece of evidence that could see the light of day because lets face it, what person who knew Casey in a non biblical way knew the woman better than her own father?Mitchell seemed incensed by this, why hadn't this man turned his daughter over to child protective services based on his then unsubstantiated suspicions? Most likely because he was deeply involved in espionage to aid in the war on women. On Velez Mitchell's hypothetical battlefield no one wins but her when the ratings come out. A long psychotic rant followed where Velez Mitchell harshly criticized the male lawyer who is trying to keep his client from a date with Old Sparky. Mitchell started her round table discussion with panelists by making the rather obvious statement that no jury would ever see it and there was no point in arguing it. With the stage set thusly Jane then launched into a meaningless discussion of the meaningless evidence, which of course she made sure we all saw in the inset next to her seemingly disembodied head. Aside from the fact that Casey can pull off some really skimpy outfits with no problem we learned nothing. The next spoke in the wheel of this story, from Velez Mitchells point of view, was that Casey Borrowed a shovel from a neighbor while her daughter was missing. THIS would seem very meaningful evidence until you remember that the unfortunate child was found unburied. It becomes overwhelmingly obvious that Seinfield wasn't the only show about nothing in American TV history. Jane was highly sympathetic towards Casey and seemed to be merely trying to talk long enough to finish the montage of the previously condemned racy videos the world would never have seen. For once i wished i was on jury duty so i could be sequestered and spared viewing the pictures. Jane Velez Mitchell's show is nothing more than murder porn. I was especially sickened that the child, the victim, was only shown briefly at the end of the montage/rant. Its important to note there is no direct evidence has come to light yet. I wont deny that Casey Anthony seems to be involved in the murder, but having been in Florida several times over the development of this case I gained a local perspective as well. The people of Orlando are disgusted and angry and they have good reason. This means nothing to Velez Mitchell and her coven of terrified panelists. The real point was missed completely, that a child was dead and nothing will bring her back. Someone's dead forever, but Jane Velez Mitchell focuses in the gorgeous mom and her sleazy pics. She's inhuman.
As a New Yorker I hear these horror stories on a regular basis. When i worked as a teacher for the New York City Department of Education i was present at meeting where parents left in handcuffs when they couldn't explain why the kid was all bruised up. I have been in the trenches of the war on ignorance and cruelty and been an advocate for children. If Velez Mitchell ever saw the things i have seen she would have a shred of empathy for the victim (when its not a stripper). One is left to wonder how Jane would have approached the Lacey Peterson case if she was on the air at the time. Fortunately, the ill advised decision to put Velez Mitchell had not yet been made.
Casey Anthony is a beautiful woman with a killer body, possibly in more ways than one. This alone makes her cannon fodder for the perpetually demonic Velez Mitchell, a woman so full of shit she doesn't have the common decency to have a non hyphenated last name. In my opinion the Velez is in there because she wasn't going to go out in the world using only the last name of a man, which is beneath her, so she added in her mothers surname in their as well, cause hey, there's a war on. Don't be fooled into thinking itsd because she was married. Velez Mitchell hates men and would never marry oneWhile i sat in horror Jane put on a show that plumbs the depths of callousness. Jane Velez Mitchell is a monster. If Nancy Grace has one thing going for her its that she is not Jane Velez Mitchell and thats saying a LOT!
Now for my theory on the sad case of Kaylee Anthony. Casey is definitely a party animal, possibly a meth head. She NEVER should have had a child, or she should have had the courage to allow the child to be adopted by a loving family. Hell, someone did that for me. Lets face it, its commendable. Casey missed that opportunity and overestimated herself. All of this is obvious. Casey Anthony just doesn't look like a killer. The lack of direct evidence shows theres a chance she didn't kill her child. I personally think that one of Casey's druggie boyfriends likely figures into this. Hows that for the war on women? Its a disgusting but undeniable possibility that Casey was so addicted and addled by drugs and alcohol that she was hanging out with ALL the wrong people. A child molester could surely have been one of them. I'm basing this on something every cop will tell you is meaningful, Casey's reaction when they discovered Kaylee dead. All reports say that she was overwrought and in hysterics. Is it just possible Casey was depraved enough to pimp her child out for drugs? Thats a lot more insightful than anything that Jane Says. Jane Velez-Mitchell is a murder pornographer who disseminates hate and fear to line her pockets.
